हमारे ऋषि मुनियों एवं विद्वानों की शिक्षा ही हमारी संस्कृति को अतीत से लेकर वर्तमान तक लाती हैं. वेद, पुराण, गीता, महाभारत, रामायण आदि भारतीय संस्कृति के आधार हैं. सभी हिन्दू शास्त्रों में गीता को प्रथम स्थान दिया जाता हैं. मुनि वेदव्यास जी ने ही गीता की रचना की थी. यह ग्रन्थ मूल रूप से महाभारत के भीष्म पर्व का ही एक भाग हैं.

गीता में कुल अठारह पर्व अथवा अध्याय एवं करीब 700 संस्कृत श्लोक हैं. हिन्दुओं में गीता के प्रति अगाध श्रद्धा एवं निष्ठा हैं. जैसे जैसे समाज में शिक्षा का चलन बढ़ा है वैसे वैसे गीता को घर घर में पढ़ा जाने लगा हैं. भारत की संस्कृति के स्वरूप उसकी सहिष्णुता के भाव को गीता जी में स्पष्ट रूप से देखा जा सकता हैं.

श्रीमद्भागवत गीता में भगवान कृष्ण द्वारा युद्ध काल में अपने प्रिय शिष्य अर्जुन को दिए गये उपदेशों का वर्णन हैं. महाभारत के युद्ध में जब कौरवों और पांडवों की सेना एक दूसरे के सम्मुख खड़ी हुई तो अर्जुन प्रतिपक्ष में अपने सभी स्वजनों को देखकर युद्ध त्याग कर अपनी पराजय स्वीकार करने लगे थे. तभी श्रीकृष्ण उन्हें उपदेश देते है और कहते है इन्सान को निष्काम भाव से कर्म करते रहना चाहिए उसे फल की चिंता नहीं करनी चाहिए.

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन । मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भू: मा ते सङ्‌गोस्त्वकर्मणि ।।

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण इस श्लोक के माध्यम से कहते है, हे पार्थ सभी जीवों में आत्मा है जो अजर और अमर हैं. वह शरीर के समाप्त होने पर भी समाप्त नहीं होती है उसे न भिगोया जा सकता न जलाया जा सकता हैं. यह ठीक उसी तरह है जैसे कोई इंसान एक वस्त्र का त्याग कर दूसरा धारण करता हैं, इसी भांति आत्मा भी एक शरीर के त्याग के पश्चात नवीन शरीर को धारण करती रहती है और मोक्ष प्राप्ति तक यह चक्र अनवरत चलता रहता हैं.

अर्जुन जब युद्ध से विमुख होने लगते है तो कृष्ण जी उन्हें आत्मा के स्वरूप को समझाते है तथा अपना विराट दर्शन देकर कहते है. भले ही मारने और मरने वाला ये सोचते है कि वह मर गया या मैंने मार दिया, परन्तु वे यह नहीं जानते है कि आत्मा कभी नहीं मरती हैं. अतः हे पार्थ यदि धर्म युद्ध का त्याग करोगे तो अपयश प्राप्त होगा तथा विजयी हुए तो श्री हासिल होगी.

एक व्यक्ति को जीवन कैसे जीना चाहिए, उसका व्यवहार कैसा हो, स्वयं में परिष्कार कैसे सम्भव है आदि हमें गीता सिखाती हैं. साथ ही गीता के उपदेशों में कहा गया है सादा जीवन उच्च विचार के साथ मनुष्य को अपने में व्याप्त स्वार्थ भावनाओं का दमन करना चाहिए. अहंकार बुद्धि का हरण कर लेता है तथा ज्ञान गुरु के बिना सम्भव नहीं है. 

गीता में भगवान कहते है कि प्राणी मुझे किसी भी रूप में मानता है मैं उनके साथ हूँ. कोई शैव, वैष्णव, कोई राम , शिव किसी रूप में स्तुति करें मैं उसे दर्शन देता हूँ. उत्कृष्ट आदर्शों का परिचायक होने के कारण गीता को हिन्दुओं का पावन ग्रंथ होने का सम्मान प्राप्त हैं. वैसे गीता के उपदेश किसी क्षेत्र, भाषा, जाति या मत मजहब विशेष के लिए न होकर सार्वभौमिक रूप से सभी के लिए हैं. उन्हें उसी रूप में अपने जीवन में अपनाकर आत्मोन्नति की राह पर बढ़ना चाहिए.

पिछले कुछ वर्षों से विदेशों में भी गीता का प्रसार प्रचार तेजी से हुआ हैं.पश्चिम भी अब गीता के महत्व को समझने लगा हैं. लगभग सभी आधुनिक भाषाओं में गीता की अनुवादित पुस्तक उपलब्ध हैं. भारत सरकार दूसरे देश से आने वाले राष्ट्राध्यक्षों को भी विदाई के समय उपहार में गीता देती हैं, यह एक अप्रितम उपहार हैं. एक पश्चिमी विद्वान ने गीता के विषय में कहा कि सभी आधुनिक भाषाओं के गीतों में गीता सबसे सुंदर एवं दार्शनिक हैं.

सभी वेदों का सम्पूर्ण सारांश गीता के अंदर विद्यमान है. गीता के बारे में वर्णन करने के लिए हमारे पास सबंध सीमा नहीं है. इसे शब्दों से नहीं बाधा जा सकता है. गीता भगवान कृष्ण से नीकली है. जिसे आज के ज़माने में लोग उसे अध्ययन करते है. भगवान कृष्ण ने अपने गीता के महत्त्व को बताया- की यदि कोई व्यक्ति गीता का सम्पूर्ण अध्ययन अपने तन-मन के साथ करें. तो उन्हें परमात्मा जरुर मिलते है. प्रेमपूर्वक भव से गीता को पढने के मुक्ति होती है. चार वेदों की सम्पूर्ण जानकारियों को मिलकर ही गीता का निर्माण किया गया है. 

प्रत्येक व्यक्ति जो गीता का अध्ययन करेगा या गीता के का भाव सुनेगा वह अपने जीवन में मोक्ष प्राप्त करेगा. गीता का प्रमुख उद्देश्य लोगो का उद्धार करना ही है. गीता का अध्ययन करने के लिए किसी धर्म या किसी देश में रोकटोक नहीं है. गीता का अध्ययन प्रत्येक धर्म के लोग, किसी भी वर्ण तथा  किसी भी देश में रहकर गीता का अध्ययन कर सकता है. 

मानव जीवन दुखों का घर माना जाता हैं, जीवन भर अपनों तथा परायों की पीड़ा को देखकर या सहकर मनुष्य खुद को कष्ट देता रहता हैं. वह स्वयं के ज्ञान से अपरिचित होता हैं. गीता का हर श्लोक हमारे जीवन की बाधाओं में राह दिखाता हैं. गीता सार को अपने जीवन में अपनाकर इसे अधिक सुखी और आनन्दमय बना सकते हैं.

गीता के बारे में कहा जाता है कि यदि एक मुर्ख इंसान भी एक बार उपदेशों को आत्मसात करले तो वह आत्मज्ञानी बन जाता हैं. जीवन की वास्तविकता, धर्म का आशय और जीवन में योगदान, विपत्ति में क्या करना चाहिए कौन मित्र और शत्रु है इसकी पहचान गीता पढ़ने भर से स्वतः हो जाती हैं.

It is the teachings of our sages and scholars that bring our culture from the past to the present. Vedas , Puranas , Geeta , Mahabharata , Ramayana etc. are the basis of Indian culture. Geeta is given the first place among all Hindu scriptures. Sage Vedvyas ji had composed Geeta. This book is basically a part of Bhishma Parva of Mahabharata.

There are a total of eighteen parvas or chapters and about 700 Sanskrit verses in Gita. Hindus have immense faith and devotion towards Geeta. As the trend of education has increased in the society, Geeta has started being read in every home. The spirit of tolerance as a part of Indian culture can be clearly seen in Geeta.

Srimad Bhagwat Geeta describes the teachings given by Lord Krishna to his beloved disciple Arjun during the war. In the war of Mahabharata, when the armies of Kauravas and Pandavas stood against each other, Arjun, seeing all his relatives on the opposite side, gave up the war and started accepting his defeat. Then Shri Krishna preaches to them and says that a person should keep doing his work selflessly and should not worry about the results.

You have only right to your actions, never to the fruits. Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.

Lord Shri Krishna says through this verse , O Partha, there is a soul in all living beings which is immortal and immortal. It does not end even when the body dies; it can neither be soaked nor burnt. This is exactly the same way as a person gives up one piece of clothing and wears another , similarly the soul also keeps adopting a new body after giving up one body and this cycle continues continuously till attaining salvation.

When Arjun starts turning away from the war, Lord Krishna explains to him the nature of the soul and gives him his grand vision. Even if the person killing and dying thinks that he has died or that he has killed , they do not know that the soul never dies. Therefore, O Partha, if you give up the religious war, you will get infamy and if you are victorious, you will get glory.

Geeta teaches us how a person should live his life , how his behavior should be , how refinement is possible in oneself etc. Also, it is said in the teachings of Geeta that a man should live a simple life with high thoughts and suppress the selfish feelings prevalent in him. Ego steals the intellect and knowledge is not possible without a Guru. 

God says in Geeta that in whatever form the creature accepts me, I am with him. Some Shaivite , Vaishnav , some may praise Ram or Shiva in some form, I give him darshan. Due to being the embodiment of excellent ideals, Geeta has the honor of being the holy book of Hindus. However, the teachings of Geeta are not for any particular region , language , caste or religion but are universally for everyone. We should adopt them in our life in the same form and move on the path of self-improvement.

In the last few years, the spread of Gita has increased rapidly in foreign countries also. The West has also started understanding the importance of Gita. Translated books of Geeta are available in almost all modern languages. The Government of India also gifts Gita to the heads of state coming from other countries at the time of farewell , it is a unique gift. A western scholar said about Gita that Gita is the most beautiful and philosophical among the songs of all modern languages.

The complete summary of all the Vedas is present in Geeta. We have no limit to describe about Geeta. It cannot be hindered by words. Geeta originated from Lord Krishna. Which people study in today's time. Lord Krishna told the importance of his Geeta - that if a person studies the Geeta completely with his body and mind. So they definitely find God. Reading Geeta with love brings liberation. Geeta has been created by combining the complete information of the four Vedas. 

Every person who will study Geeta or listen to the teachings of Geeta will attain salvation in his life. The main objective of Geeta is to save people. There is no restriction in any religion or any country to study Geeta. People of every religion , any caste and living in any country can study Geeta.     

Human life is considered to be a house of sorrows , man keeps troubling himself by seeing or tolerating the suffering of his own and strangers throughout his life. He is unaware of his own knowledge. Every verse of Geeta shows us the way through the obstacles in our life. By adopting the essence of Geeta in your life, you can make it more happy and joyful.

It is said about Geeta that if even a foolish person assimilates the teachings once, he becomes enlightened. The reality of life , the meaning of religion and its contribution in life , what should be done in times of trouble and who is friend and enemy can be identified automatically just by reading Geeta.
