The iPhone 16 has been banned from sale in Indonesia due to Apple’s failure to meet local investment requirements. Under Indonesia's regulations, foreign smartphone brands must invest locally—often by using local resources, establishing facilities, or employing local workers—to include at least 40% domestic content in their products. Apple fell short of its investment commitment, leaving a $15 million gap from its pledged amount, resulting in the government withholding necessary certification for iPhone 16 sales. However, older iPhone models can still be sold in Indonesia.

Although Indonesian consumers are allowed to import the iPhone 16 for personal use, resale is not permitted. This restriction aligns with a broader policy that applies taxes and requires registration for phones bought abroad. The iPhone 16’s absence from Apple’s Indonesian website reflects these restrictions
