Elon Musk’s X Bans Over 5 Lakh Indian Accounts for Policy Violations, Including Terrorism and Child Exploitation

New Delhi: Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has taken strict action against policy violations by banning over 5 lakh Indian accounts. The platform stated that these accounts were removed primarily for promoting terrorism and sharing child sexual exploitation content.

Why Did X Take This Action?

According to X’s latest monthly compliance report, from December 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, the platform banned 5,44,473 accounts in India. Among these:

4,62,804 accounts were banned for sharing child sexual exploitation content.
81,669 accounts were removed for promoting terrorism.

Apart from these bans, X also acted on over 10,000 complaints from Indian users regarding defamation, fake news, and anti-national content, as per India’s IT Rules, 2021.

What Should Users Be Careful About?

With strict monitoring and automated reporting systems, X is enforcing its policies rigorously. To avoid account suspension, users should:
✔️ Avoid sharing hate speech, fake news, or content promoting terrorism.
✔️ Report child exploitation and objectionable content.
✔️ Follow X’s community guidelines to keep their accounts safe.

Government and Social Media Crackdown Continues

The Indian government is also closely monitoring social media platforms under IT Rules, 2021, and has directed companies like Meta, Google, and X to ensure compliance with strict regulations.

X’s decision highlights that social media is no longer a safe space for illegal activities, and those violating policies will face permanent action.
